At Chobham Hearing we can provide
many different types of hearing aids from a variety of
manufacturers, this being dependant on your actual hearing loss.
All hearing aids have the latest in digital technology and can
be prescribed to suit your particular requirements.
Hearing can begin to deteriorate
gradually after the age of 25 due to a combination of all of
lifes experiences, exposure to noise and loud sounds and the
effects of medications etc. A natural deterioration if you
like. From about the age of 55 years it can become more
pronounced and severely affect ones lifestyle and quality of
life.
For many people hearing loss is a
gradual affair occurring over many years to which the individual
adapts until their hearing deteriorates to the point that they
know they must do some thing about it.
It is a bit like getting your
first pair of glasses during middle age when eventually you know
you cant carry on without getting your eyesight sorted out.
During this period of several
years the individual loses recognition of some everyday sounds
and when a hearing aid is fitted these sounds are gradually
recalled from the memory banks and recognised as sounds
belonging to specific things.
No hearing aid is capable of
restoring natural hearing but with todays technology hearing
aids can help the hearing impaired tremendously with their
quality of life, specific environments such as a restaurant,
church, a meeting, music, the theatre etc thus enhancing ones
lifestyle.
Sound is received on both sides
of the brain from each ear where it is analysed for intensity,
timing and differences in frequency. Therefore for those
people that have a hearing loss to both ears it is better where
possible to provide a hearing aid to both. Sound
localisation and speech recognition is generally much better.
Remember that an unaided ear that
continues to deteriorate more than an aided ear may not recover
to the same level if aided at a later date.
