BTE are the versatile and
powerful hearing instruments that are worn behind the ear.
They can be employed for all degrees of hearing loss and are
particularly beneficial for severe hearing losses and special
requirements regarding hearing in difficult listening situations
(FM systems etc.)
They have come a long way in recent years with technological
developments enabling manufacturers to produce very small
hearing aids that have multi programmes and are available in
many different colours that are more aesthetically pleasing.
BTE can also have
remote controls; cros-systems for people with no hearing in one
ear - to give full spacial awareness; and bone conduction
hearing aids - for bone conduction hearing loss.
BTE's can be
incorporated into a pair of spectacles. Assistive FM
systems can also be fitted to them.
